Our services

Support for international students (incoming students)

For international students who plan to complete a full degree program at LMU (degree students), we are the first point of contact for their application, admission and registration. To ensure that all international full-time students get the most from their LMU experience, we offer the following services:

  • Advice and support for prospective international students before and during the application phase and when changing subjects
  • Verification of qualifications, admission and registration
  • Information sessions: Welcome Day at the start of the first semester at LMU (in German and English)
  • Social support and scholarships
  • Assistance and mediation with authorities

Our International Admissions team works closely with private associations and initiatives that support international students to settle in Munich and successfully handle a range of common everyday problems. These include the tutoring program TutoRIA, which establishes personal contact between Germans and students of other nationalities.

All international exchange students who come to LMU within the framework of one of our exchange agreements (Erasmus+ and LMUexchange) will receive advice and support before arrival and during their stay in Munich.

We support students from LMU partner universities with:

  • Application for and admission to an exchange program at LMU
  • Information session: Welcome Day at the beginning of the semester
  • Finding accommodation
  • Finding language courses
  • Orientation around campus

We advise prospective students who are refugees and asylum seekers and we coordinate LMU's own program for refugees to help prepare them for a course of study at LMU.

The Munich International Summer University (MISU) offers numerous "Summer Academies" and German language courses for international students.

Services for LMU students (outgoing students)

If you have any questions about studying abroad, our advisory team is happy to help. We coordinate exchange opportunities with over 530 partner universities worldwide - within Europe, mainly via the Erasmus+ program, and in the rest of the world through LMUexchange. In addition to giving advice on regular exchange programs, we also provide support if you have your own individual study-abroad plans.

We offer the following services:

  • International university days and fairs
  • Advice on opportunities for financial support and recognition of your academic performance abroad
  • Intercultural preparation for your stay abroad

LMU students who plan to work or do an internship abroad can get advice and placement support from LMU's Career Services.

International doctoral candidates who come to Munich for a minimum of three months to research and teach at LMU can take advantage of the LMU Gateway welcome services.

Every year, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) enables a number of highly qualified Chinese doctoral candidates from all disciplines to complete part (the "sandwich model") or all of their doctoral studies at LMU. The International Office looks after the administrative and social needs of CSC scholarship students and supports them throughout their stay at LMU with the following services:

  • Language courses
  • Accommodation services
  • Poster sessions

Services for faculties and the Central University Administration

We coordinate university partnership programs for LMU and its faculties with universities around the world. We offer support with the initiation of new partnerships and the necessary administrative steps involved.

We offer LMU teaching and administrative staff members advice on staff mobility options within the framework of Erasmus+ and LMUexchange. We are also the main point of contact for contract management, financial support and organizational issues.
